Free public transport will be provided around Bangkok this weekend to help facilitate those who wish to attend the Royal Coronation Ceremony of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn between May 4-6. 

Bangkok Mass Transit System Plc (BTSC), the operator of Bangkok’s skytrain services, will offer free rides on the entire Sukhumvit and Silom lines on May 5 from 6am-midnight, while on May 4 and May 6 there will be free rides available only for the BTS extensions, from On Nut station to Kheha station and Wong Wian Yai station to Bang Wa station. 

Pakapong Sirikantaramas, governor of Mass Rapid Transportation Authority (MRTA), also announced that the MRT Blue Line from Hua Lamphong to Bang Sue and Purple Line from Taopoon to Bang Yai will offer free services from 6am-midnight between May 5-6. 

The MRTA also plans to provide free parking spaces at eleven MRT Blue Line stations throughout the city. These include Ladprao, Thailand Cultural Center (two car parks at the station and one in Ratchadapisek Soi 6), Ratchadapisek, Huai Khwang, Rama 9, Phetchaburi, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (including the one opposite from the convention center) and Sam Yan. 

Meanwhile, free parking spaces will also be available at four MRT Purple Line stations, including Khlong Bang Phai, Sam Yaek Bang Yai, Bang Rak Noi Tha It and Yaek Nonthaburi 1, as well as at Kheha station on the BTS Green Line extension. These free parking will be available on May 4-6, from 5am-1am. 

As reported by TAT News, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) will provide free shuttle bus services between May 2-6, running a total of eleven routes around Bangkok.

In addition, the Marine Department will offer free boat services between May 4-6 as follows—Chao Phraya Express Boat from Nonthaburi pier to Pin Klao pier (Bangkok side) at 10am, 11am, 3pm and 4pm; and from Sathorn pier to Memorial Bridge pier at 10am, 11am, 3pm and 4pm. 

Free ferry services are also available from 6am-10pm, running every 20 mins. from Rama 8 pier to Pin Klao pier (Bangkok side); from Railway pier to Pin Klao pier (Bangkok side); and every 15 mins. from Pin Klao pier (Thon Buri side) to Pin Klao pier (Bangkok side). 

According to Bangkok Post, more than 150,000 visitors are expected to attend His Majesty the King’s coronation ceremony this weekend.
