Thailand's Siam Organic emerged victorious at this year's The Chivas Venture global final round announced in Los Angeles overnight.

The competition is a global search to find and support the next generation of startups creating a better future for society, and is judged based on the ability to create sustainable change through a viable business model and potential to scale.

This year saw 30 finalists from 30 countries vie to take home a share of a US$1 million fund, with Siam Organic claiming the largest slice of US$400,000.

Founded by Peetachai Dejkraisak and Pornthida Wongphatharakul, Siam Organic works with small-scale farmers to alleviate poverty through the cultivation of Jasberry, an anti-oxidants-rich, non-genetically modified whole grain rice that's a marriage of Thai jasmine rice and black rice.

Since its inception in 2014, The Chivas Venture has received almost 6,000 applications from startups that are using new innovations to create positive change. Socialgiver was Thailand's representative back in 2015.

Last year, Conceptos Plasticos from Colombia won the largest share of the fund at USD300,000.
