After a three-year wait, Singapore will be in prime position to witness a solar eclipse again come Wednesday, Mar 9. The eclipse will take place from 7:22am to 9:32am, with the maximum obscuration of 87% occurring at 8:23am.
There are three special events for astronomy enthusiasts to attend organized by the Faculty of Science at NUS, the Science Centre and the Astronomical Society of Singapore (at Labrador Park). The timing also means you can simply head to your favorite sunrise spots to witness the event. Here are eight vantage points we recommend.
A word of caution: Be sure that you have the right equipment for eclipse-viewing as the lack of proper gear can lead to serious eye damage. NASA has a comprehensive guideon what is and isn’t safe along with instructions for making your own pinhole camera.
