It may be an old-school pastime, but late-night prawning places are here to stay, from old classic Hai Bin Prawning (with branches in Bishan, Jurong and Punggol) to the newer spots at Orto near Khatib. If you’re inspired, cook up your catch at the barbecue pits provided.
Mystica
It’s that time of the year again when Night Safari does its annual themed transformation. This year’s Mystica is a weird and wonderful bioluminescent realm with lots of surreal light effects and cool performances (at 7:45pm, 8:45pm and 9:45pm) where “twilight guardians” swirl and twirl LED light props to dazzling effect. Night Safari’s usual fire-twirling Thumbuakar show will also have a special glow-in-the-dark edition. Also, don't miss the special enrichment devices placed in the animal habitats, allowing you to see the nocturnal creatures in action. Mystica runs Nov 27-28, Dec 4-5 and 11-12. More info here.
It’s thronged with children, roller bladers, joggers, picnickers and cyclists during the day, but East Coast Park is open to the public all night. To have the place all to yourself (almost) or to try some easy camping, visit at night.
You don’t have to be a tourist to appreciate how pretty the Henderson Waves are all lit up at night. Also pretty is strolling around Changi Point Coastal Walk, which, in case you didn’t know, is open 24 hours. The 2.6km walk meanders along rustic Changi beach and is teemling with tropical flora—perfect for when it’s nice and breezy.
The city is full of rooftop bars (both stratospheric and low-slung). The highest vantage points are at the likes of Ce La Vi and 1-Altitude, but equally charming are cozy places like Southbridge and Fresh. For a full list of favorites, click here.
Brave an alfresco local dinner at one of the city’s classic late-night sidewalk spots. Our vote is for the backalley tables at Jalan Besar’s Swee Choon Tim Sum or, if you prefer a sea breeze, Makan Sutra right by Esplanade.
