The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) announced its 2015 edition of the annual Design Excellence Award (DEMark) on Aug 3. Featuring 69 winners from six categories, the event highlights those who will go on to exhibit at the Good Design Exhibition in Tokyo on Oct 30-Nov 4. Here, we’ve selected eight of our favorite products.

Tori Chair 

Designer: Jakkapun “Golf” Charinrattana from Golf JC Studio 
Why we like it: The body is made from curved oak while the seat is genuine leather, making for a very comfortable combination. Though the leather looks like it won’t take that much weight, the designer has used hidden steel reinforcement to create a highly sturdy piece of furniture in contrast to its delicate looks.

Designer: Piyanat Ratanawongsarot from Barketek
Why we like it: This pet food bowl is made from ceramic and helps to keep ants out by having a water gap in its lower part.

Why we like it: The brown bamboo mixes beautifully with the genuine leather navy seat.

Designer: Pitchaya Maneerattanaporn from Whoop furniture 
Why we like it: The minute size belies its function as a seat and storage, while the vertical rack can also be used to hang two bicycles.

Kapp

Designer: Waewyos Sonthichai from Pana Objects 
Why we like it: The wood-loving Thai brand designed this product to be a functional, single material piece that people can take anywhere. Kapp is a bottle opener made from maple and walnut wood that’s portable, pretty and easy to use by just adding a coin in the middle.

Klank Wireless Speaker 

Designer: Warin Thanathawee from Core Design Studio
Why we like it: Klank is a portable speaker connecting via Bluetooth to your phone, while also acting as a tablet dock and device charger.

Designer: Papawee Pongthanavaranon, Sarinee Balavarnabha and Anek Kulthaveesup from Labrador 
Why we like it: This clutch opens in a Z pattern to let you see everything inside while keeping it organized and upright.

Designer: Siree Chitphong from Noon Studio
Why we like it: This young jewelry design studio is unique for its use of natural materials like rock and sand to create wearable pieces of art.
