In-house brewing is on the way and the food takes pub grub up a notch.
Onnut is coming up in the world. More bars, more restaurants, more shopping. Up on Onnut 21, new craft beer space Radicle is for the crowd who love a good brew and food you don’t normally find in a beer spot.

Found just off the main Onnut road and with ample parking, the large-windowed venue opens to a seating area and bar kitted out in bright woods and two floors of seating. Now, the area to your right as you enter is currently empty, but over the next six months, this is where visitors will be able to view the brewing process in action.

The Kingdom’s odd beer laws notwithstanding, Radicle plans to be brewing its own beer this year, but for now they’ve got a wall of locally brewed craft beers from names you might recognize if you’re a Bangkok hops aficionado, including drinks from Elephants in the Pool, Thong Pradit, Cold Cat, Brewing Project, and Brain Fill. International brands also gets a look in with Left Hand and Franziskaner.

If you’re going with a killjoy who doesn’t really go in for beer, then you’ll want to check out their personalized cocktails—personalized in that you choose from a series of ingredients, choose your poison, and then have a “visit to the mixologist” to choose whether you want that drink tiki, highball, bold and boozy, floral, sweet, or sour. All cocktails are B280 and, while fairly simple, are several levels above what you’ll get at most craft beer spots.

Besides the vibes and the beer, until they get that in-house brewery up and going, the best reason to go right now is the food. The menu calls it “pub food”, but it’s anything but. Seriously, this is another level for craft beer bars. Sure, they’ve got fries (B160), but they’re also boasting 12-hour smoked pork ribs (B580) and curry chicken flavored croquettes (B200).

For BK, the must-try dishes include beef curry on toast, which features slow-cooked beef in a tendon curry and topped with pickled onions, and, by far the favorite, the unmissable charred coconut chicken (B250), yogurt marinated chicken in a curry-like coconut gravy. Radicle has some Burmese bones to it, so also try their tea leaf tartlets, savory bites with fermented green tea and grilled river prawn on a bean tartlet.

Radicle has serious science muscle behind it, with proper fermentation experts calling the shots. In the future, they plan to offer events in their large space, including music, so this is one to watch for your next Onnut night out.
