Inspired by Tulum, a seaside Mexican town and a summer playground for the rich and famous, Tulum Sky Bar is Bangkok’s newest jungle rooftop bar on the 29th floor of Movenpick Ekkamai.

The sprawling outdoor interior pays tribute to the Mexican Caribbean, with sculptures reminiscent of the Mayans. The most eye-catching art on display is made by hand and closely resembles a modern version of the Ven A La Luz sculpture in Tulum, meaning  “come into the light.” Aztec patterns are on the walls, with thatched light fixtures and hanging vines. DJs spin tropical tracks, and there are jungle-style shows with pole dancing, Latin beats, and fire dancing.

Drinks are tropical and heavily feature tequila, like the Aztec Fire Potion spiced up with tabasco to compliment the tequila and milk punch. For something lighter and refreshing, try the fruit-forward Cenote Caramel Splash with Jose Cuervo, pineapple, passionfruit, and salted caramel.

The food features fusion dishes inspired by Tulum and the Yucatan Peninsula. It allows you to mix-and-match canapes with sashimi platters, nachos, pasta, or their signature Tulum steak.

Tulum joins the Bangkok craze for Mexican and South American food and nightlife, which in recent years has hit the big mango with fine dining at Ojo and Santiaga as well as nightlife spots like Mezcal, Above Eleven, and El Santo.

29/F, Movenpick Ekkamai, 559, Sukhumvit Soi 62., 82-973-0275. Open daily 5pm-late.
