Could this be a turning point for the the infamous resort city?

Pattaya's one-year-old Mytt hotel has just launched a new rooftop bar-slash-restaurant that will change your perspective on Pattaya. With Pippa, the hotel's 30-year-old owner, Suppachai “Eyy” Rattanaopath, has set his sights on raising Pattaya's F&B scene to Bangkok standards.

The rooftop is split into three areas. Sunset Bar offers a sunset-facing terrace overlooking the beach, and serves signature cocktails, which, we have to say, rival even some of Bangkok's most progressive bars. The clarification technique has exploded on Bangkok's cocktail scene, but we were surprised to see it had made its way to the coast—order the clarified milk punch (B320), a mix of rum, lemon juice, vanilla syrup, pineapple juice, chocolate bitters and clarified milk. We also love the Pippa Colada (B290)—a mix of rum, coconut milk, pineapple juice, white chocolate liqueur and passionfruit puree.

For affordable fusion dishes, there's The Dining, where you'll find Spicy Tuna Rice Crispies (B250)—raw tuna with ebiko (sea urchin roe) in a spicy mayo, served on crispy rice and topped off with ikura (salmon roe). We were pleasantly surprised by the tofu and tomato salad (B180), a tasty twist on a buratta and tomato salad. Pasta and mains like roasted chicken are also available, starting from B480.

The third and final part of the rooftop—our favorite—is Pippa's Secret, a secret bar hidden between Sunset Bar and the dining area. It reminds us of Bangkok’s Vesper but more spacious and playful. Here, there's no menu because the focus is solely on bespoke cocktails, with prices starting at B280.

Room rates at Mytt start at B3,600.
