Time was your average NGO worker wouldn't be seen dead without a Beerlao, though one too many craft beers and homebrews changed that.

However, earlier this year Lao nationals voted on a new beer for export—and you can try the winner, Beerlao White, in Bangkok this weekend.

The new beer will debut outside of Laos at Thailand Brew Fest, which returns for its third year to offer up beers from 15 countries at A Square this Nov 30-Dec 1.

Back in July, Beerlao announced it would celebrate its 45th anniversary by launching three new "craft-inspired" labels—Amber, Hoppy and White—with only one of them to be put on the market outside of the country.

Romping home in the three-month public vote was White, which Beerlao describes as "well balanced, uniquely bold and refreshing with hints of citrus and notes of banana and exotic fruits, delivering a perfectly smooth lager." We were lucky enough to have already tasted all three bottles and agree it's a worthy winner—think Hoegaarden sold at 7-Eleven for B129.

Better than that, the new Beerlao will be priced at no more than B70 at 7-Eleven and supermarkets, thanks to the efforts of Smiling Mad Dog, the craft beer importer responsible for bringing in names like BallastPoint, BrewDog and Evil Twin.

Tickets to Thailand Brew Fest are B399 available in advance here, or B500 at the door. Both ticket types come with one free beer.
