And why traffic was especially bad over the weekend.

Thanks to the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), Sukhumvit Road is looking, perhaps for the first time ever, tidy.

The past weekend's (Nov 18-19) gridlock was the work of the MEA's orange trucks, which were parked on either side of the road as uniformed officials hacked away the unnecessary cables and wires that run the length of Sukhumvit.

It's suspected that this effort at tidiness is the result of public chastizing by Bill Gates, who in 2016 posted a now-infamous photo of Bangkok's bird's-nest wiring on his Facebook.

According to reports, officials are still working to clear the wires on Sukhumvit today but the results are already evident, as you can see in our images below (we do hope the empty pylons go the same way as the wires, though).
