Recent signs point to yes.

It's all a bit nerdy and speculative, but earlier this month, two niche news sites, E27 and 3DPrint ran stories about the aspirations of NTU's Centre for 3D Printing to one day put together public housing by 3D printing one floor at a time and stacking them on top of each other. Cool, huh?

There are many question marks so far, of course, like building 3D printers that big, ensuring safety and getting the government on board. But, according to the 3DPrint story, the Centre plans to present a proposal to the Singapore government later this year. If all goes well, there could be major money behind the operation.

Futuristic and dreamy though it may seem, it could actually happen. Singapore is a major hub for 3D printing technology, and last year, the government launched a 3D printing cluster involving NTU, NUS and SUTD.

No exciting pictures yet, but we suspect it won't be long. Meantime you can ooh and aah over these photographs of old-school HDBs here and some others by Peter Steinhauer.
