5 venues around Ari's Soi Ratchakru that prove it's is so much more than a posh residential area
There's lots of eating, drinking and art appreciation to go around here
One of Bangkok’s best and longest-running art galleries with a strong following among the city’s in-the-know art crowd. The modest, white-walled space regularly hosts exhibitions from some of the city’s most well-respected artists and occasionally houses an international showcase or two. Now it’s also come to be considered an idea-sharing space for artists, curators and art collectors, the gallery also features a library for art-related research as well as an information desk sharing details on upcoming exhibitions, current contemporary art news and artist interviews.
Numthong Gallery, 72/3 Ari Soi 5, 02-617-2794. Open Mon-Sat 11am-6pm. BTS Ari
Ari's chic new cafe doubles as a delivery service bringing ice cream, baked goods and coffee to your door. The shop itself is a pretty minimal affair, putting a clear focus on quality coffee. Beans come courtesy of top local roasters like Ceresia and Brave, with blends as well as single origins from Kenya and Colombia available as latte or flat white, French press or hot and cold drip. Each morning staff bake croissants, pork pies and brownies.
Phahon Yothin Soi 5, 062-416-7746. Open Mon-Sat 8am-5pm. BTS Ari
One of Sathorn’s favorite Thai restaurants is now taking on Ari’s poshest street. The new Charm Ratchakru boasts the same winning combo of authentic Thai recipes from the chef’s childhood—mostly from his grandma’s home-cooked meals. Here, they source ingredients locally from across Thailand, and put them on display for its slate of Western dishes too. Just like the Sathorn location, you’ll get all the bar vibes you need going late into the night with live bands playing signature ’90s Thai pop tunes every night. To kick off the opening period, get buy-one-get-one on wine, beer and select whiskey from 5-9pm every day and a special B170+ lunch set from 11am-3pm and refills on herbal tea, Thai coffee and Thai tea at B59+ from 5-9pm every day.
1/F, 33 Bann Ratchakru (Room 104), Phahol Tothin Soi 5, 091-758-6946. Open Mon-Fri 11am-3pm, 5pm-12am (last order at 11:30), Sat-Sun (and public holidays), 11am - 12am. BTS Ari
Ari cyclists, Tokyobike is your spot. The lightweight bikes here put a precedence on comfort over speed, and you can test ride four models, starting from the Bisou (B23,800) up to the Single Speed (SS, B31,900), all previously unavailable in Thailand. After perusing the bikes, you can kick back at the cozy cafe inside, Laliart Coffee, which serves up espresso coffee (from B60) made with beans from Thailand’s North, as well as homemade ice cream and patisseries like frangipani berry tart (B70) and apple pie with vanilla sauce (B80). They also stock a range of coffee-making products.
20 Ari Soi 2, 02-117-1016. Open Tue-Sun 11am-8pm. BTS Ari
Laf is all about nitro coffee in the morning and craft brews at night. Get your morning grind going with one of their (admittedly nice) pieces of late art while cutting into a homemade jackfruit cake. At night, try one of their rotating beer craft flights while taking in live music or catching the game on TV.
Phahon Yothin 5, 090-902-1942. Open daily 8-1am. BTS Ari
The most recent branch serving our classic dishes and drinks with a fresh new kick and of course, live music.
