This third single from alt-pop five-piece Yerm is a tribute to Singha Sqweez Animal, the indie figurehead who tragically passed away last year aged just 31.

The fact it’s released on Bird Sound Record, the underground label founded by Desktop Error’s guitarist, Adisak "Bird" Puang-ok, should give this a big seal of approval.

Starting out as a plaintive campfire strum-along, the song’s lyrics tell the story of a deer struggling to “find the meaning of life in this cruel world” after the death of a lion, its former guardian. It’s a charming allegory for dealing with the loss of a loved one, made all the more touching by the song’s rousing crescendo and the inclusion of electronic and ambient sounds to mimic a deep forest atmosphere. The result is a lamentation on loneliness that stands out from most radio-friendly rock.
