Hot trends from 8 leading Thai Desingers for men's and women's wear this season.

Journey through Prints

Landscape and graphic prints continue to be popular this year, with the concept of a journey looming as the main inspiration for two big designers. Named after the Brazilian greeting “Tudo Bem” meaning “Everything OK?,” DA+PP’s collection references the warm and colorful culture of the South American country, but tones it down slightly with pastel-like colors. Maintaining the brand’s signature vintage street fashion style are items like crop tops, shirts and dresses that come in loose fabrics like chiffon and light cotton and feature prints and embroidered details of floral patterns, parrots, hornbills, flamingos and whales. Accessories include plenty of brown leather to accentuate the vintage theme.

Issue is another brand going down the graphic print route taking inspiration from the first Thai royal plays to be performed in Europe. The main graphic, then, mixes traditional Thai and Baroque motifs on items like shorts, crop tops, jackets and accessories.

Street Glam

The clothes of Milin Yuwacharaskul are not normally associated with street fashion, but that’s certainly the case here with her A.B.C collection for Spring/Summer 2014. Taking inspiration from American-born-Chinese (hence the name, A.B.C.) and their interpretations of street culture, the results are a lively but glam look. The basic items stick to Milin’s signature style—sleeveless crop tops, above-the-knee dresses, maxi dresses, mini and maxi skirts—but come in slightly oversized patterns and fabrics and colors you normally find in sportswear like net and metallic. It’s a younger, out-going look that’s day-friendly but also playful enough for wearing at night.

Asava’s The New Yorker collection, meanwhile, incorporates big lettering into more glamorous designs. You’ll find the letter A printed in a monogram style on items like chiffon tops, sleeveless jumpsuits, shorts and dresses. Even fancier, all-white pieces like the long blazer, trousers and tops repeat the letter A motif through laser-cut patterns.

Spring in the Dark

It’s not all bright colors this season, as designer Munchumart Numbenjapol of the brand Munchu’s rolls out a rockers-meet-vampires vibe in her latest collection, Goodbye Morning. With its dark romantic palette of grey, military green, beige, pastel purple and silver metallic, the collection puts the focus on boyish oversized patterns. Single color items like maxi skirts, shorts, knee-length dresses and maxi dresses come in chiffon and silk, while crop tops, vests, sleeveless blouses and blazers feature military details and graphic prints that resemble rock band tees.

Similarly, Sretsis explores dark tones with its Children of The Star collection, which contains four key looks: Star Traveler, which sees items in boyish patterns and deep blue and green colors; Sun Cruises, featuring a slightly more beach-y mood with striped T-shirts, colorful printed dresses and sailor T-shirts; Summer Paradise, which puts the focus on lace; and Moon Dreamer, simple patterns glammed up with embroidery.

Mom’s Closet

Proving you can’t go wrong with vintage are the new collections from Kloset and Senada. Kloset’s aptly titled “When Mom Was Young” collection puts little modern twists on retro patterns and styles. As you’d expect, floral and geometric prints abound, as do pastel and earth tones, but there are also some items in vivid orange and yellow. Embroidered birds, platform shoes and bell-bottom jeans offer a touch of the 70s, too.

Senada’s “Look-At-Me” collection fast-forwards to the 90s, with rugged grunge-inspired items like off-the-shoulder printed tops, flared pants and crop tops that go best with knee-length A-line skirts. The key colors are black, white, beige and blue, with some pieces featuring geometric prints.
