On Feb 14, a same-sex couple attempted to register their union at the Bangrak district office—unsuccessfully, of course. This marks the latest move by the Sexual Diversity Network (SDN) to push forward a bill to grant marriage rights to same-sex couples in Thailand. Hearings are under way by a House committee, and will determine how the bill is ultimately submitted to the cabinet. But the SDN would also like to secure a backup plan, should the House committee drag its feet. To do so, they will attempt to gather 10,000 eligible voters to submit a civil-society bill directly to the House.
