The newest art show on the block could potentially rival Art Stage

Arty types will have a new art fair to look forward to next year. The Singapore Contemporary Art Show, to be held on Jan 21-24, 2016 at the Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre, is hosted by Hong Kong-based Asia Contemporary Art Buyer, the people behind Hong Kong art fair, Asia Contemporary Art Show

While it is held during the same period as popular fourth-time blockbuster fair Art Stage held at the MBS Expo and Convention Center, the Singapore Contemporary Art Show will only feature mid-tier artworks priced between $10,000-$100,000. It probably means that blockbuster works won't take center stage here (so no Damien Hirst for one, sorry).

But like Art Stage, The Singapore Contemporary Art Show will also feature various artist dialogues, curated platforms and presentations by various galleries on board. With the art market hitting saturation point this year (nearly half of the galleries at Gillmans Barracks shut their doors in May, for example), it remains to be seen if this latest addition will fare as well as its counterpart. But hey, at least there'll be more art to see, even though this sounds pretty much like yet another trade show to us.
