JJ Green, one of Bangkok’s most beloved evening hangout spots, is set to permanently close by Sep 12, according to Bangkok Gov. Asawin Kwanmuang.

As reported by Khaosod English, an announcement was made last week that all vendors will need to leave the property by Sep 12, the end of the market’s lease contract. Originally they were to have vacated by Aug 31, but the deadline was extended by two weeks.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) terminated its contract with the market’s operator, V Multimedia Company Ltd, due to its failure to pay rent.

The 21-rai space will be returned to the Queen Sirikit Park Foundation for construction of a 727-rai mega greenspace, which will combine Wachirabenchathat Park (known for its nickname Suan Rodfai), Queen Sirikit Park and Chatuchak Park into one.

JJ Green, which first opened in 2012, has become one of Bangkok’s most iconic and popular night markets known for its chilled-out, bohemian vibes, vast selection of fashionable vintage clothes and rows of industrial-slash-retro drinking parlors with live music.
