The government is pushing a B2.2 trillion infrastructure budget so that soon enough we’ll all be zipping about Thailand on high-speed rail. In the meantime, traffic keeps getting worse and the BTS more packed. Here’s some good news, though. Delivered last week, four new BTS cars will soon increase the capacity of the four trains on the Sukhumvit line to 1,490 passengers, up from the current capacity of 1,106. And 31 more cars are expected early 2013 under a B2.1 billion contract. The cars that just got delivered need to be tested for two months so don’t expect them until late Oct or early Nov. And while we’re on the topic, don’t forget the Wongwian Yai-Bang Wa route opens Dec 5.
