Remember the old Ferris wheel that used to lurch dangerously around in the breeze during the good old days of Suan Lum Night Market? Well, soon you’ll be able to soar above the rooftops once again. Only this time you should be able to go much higher and enjoy some spectacular river views at the same time. That is if the BMA’s plans to give those Singaporeans and their fancy Flyer a run for their money by building our own giant wheel come to fruition. Apparently, they have a budget of B30 billion and already have a couple of potential sites—one at the Queen Sirikit Centre, and the preferred option, near Charoen Krung Road. And it’s going to be big too, standing a cool 176 metres, compared to the London Eye, which is a mere 135m tall. Trifling details like when, where and who is going to build it are still to be ironed out but that’s no reason not to get excited, is it? Is it?
