Rather weirdly, though, we’ve got the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) to thank. For it’s the government department we normally curse for blocking our favorite porn sites that has recently introduced 20,000 free Wi-Fi hotspots around Bangkok. We confess, we’re a bit paranoid about why MICT says users must register on their main website (www.mict.go.th) first, though. Still you will get access to the free 2 Mbps Internet wherever you see the SMART-WiFi@TH logo. MICT also promises to roll out another 20,000 hotspots by October this year and an additional 250,000 nationwide by 2015 – presumably so Bangkokians can keep updating Instagram while posing with the locals.
