When did your love in football first kick off? Who’s your inspiration?
It started from watching kids in the neighborhood playing and just thought it was fun. I really enjoyed it that I want to play too. So my first games were with the boys around there, and it just continues. I kept playing and got better at it. My favorite player was Zico Kiatisuk Senamuang [current manager of Thai SEA game football team], who was the Thai National’s captain. For now I also enjoy watching Neymar Junior. His style and cheeky techniques is just fun to watch.

Talk us through your moment of qualifying for the World Cup.
I was absolutely delighted. None of us was expecting that. We’ve been training very hard; so deep in our minds we carried a certain weight of our own motivation. So when the final whistle was blown, it’s also a relief, a joyful one. I used to think of going to the World Cup too, but it was more of a fantasy. Now that it comes true, I sometimes still look back and asked myself how we managed to do that. It was surreal.

What do you think was the winning formula?
Everyone in the team. How we work together is the most important factor. We have been together for a long time. Some of us have been training together since we were 19 and now we’re almost 30. So it’s the connection you have on and off the pitch. You look at them in the eyes, and you know not only what they’re thinking but feeling.

Is it a big responsibility being the captain?
I don’t think of it as a heavy duty. I just appreciate the coach entrusted me with the role. But I just always give my best and try to help other on the pitch. When you’re a young player, you need this kind of help from the senior, and I try to provide that.

What’s your expectation for The World Cup in Canada?
We know it’ll be tough. We’ll give our best shot. We want to get to the second round, but I really don’t mind if we go further.

What would be your advice to young people pursuing a sport career?
There were really tough times, a lot of them. For me, when I was really down I just talked to my parents. They were really supportive and reminded me how much I love the sport. You will always have bad moments in life or career, but the difference is that your decision to continue or quit. If you’re determined to really fight for what you want, chances are it will come true.
