The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA), the guys behind the catchy slogan “Tap water can be drunk” (yeah, right), are now taking their watery crusade to the parks of the city. Working with the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority (BMA) they plan on installing drinking fountains in 123 of 1,251 parks in Bangkok (we’re not sure where they got the 1000+ parks from either) with the very admirable intention of keeping us hydrated while reducing our dependence on plastic bottled water—one of the main factors for global warming. The MWA say they have a B5 million budget to complete the installation of these fountains in five years, which means 25 fountains per year. The first fountain has already been installed, and has been sating the thirst of visitors to Saranratmaneerom Park on New Petchburi Road since August.
