Scala (2022) is a documentary film by Ananta Thitanat who captures the cinema’s final days before its curtain finally closed. The film will be screened at Phahon Theater (70 Phahonyothin Rd., 02-278-1126) on Dec 16 at 7pm.

As a daughter of one of the cinema’s former employees, Ananta follows her dad’s co-workers in their heartbreaking conversations as they are evicted from their “home.” The film thus invites the audience to see the demolition of Scala, not as a loss of Bangkok’s architectural gem, but as a collective loss that ripples across the industry and the city.

The film has been awarded the Youth Eye Award from EBS International Documentary Festival and Grand Jury Prize from World Film Festival of Bangkok.

There will be a Q&A session with Ananta after the film ends. The ticket is priced at B150, available here
