The Japanese-style Little Zoo Cafe offers diners the chance to play with exotic furry animals while dining on plates piled high with Belgian waffles.

At Muangthong Thani's Little Zoo Cafe, a red fox named Hachi is left to roam around the space freely, joined by monthly visiting species that include fennec foxes (small nocturnal dogs native to Saharan Africa), meerkats and raccoons.

These exotic species are kept in a separate glass room, where house rules admit only six guests at a time. The reason, they say, is that the small animals tire too easily.

Cat cafes are nothing new to Bangkok, but recent years have seen the concept of petting animals as you dine pushed further and further. Last month saw the opening of this dog cafe in Hua Hin, where visitors get to play with 12 Japanese Shiba Inus.

Plans for a very similar fox cafe in London were recently canceled following pressure from animal rights groups, who revealed it could actually be in breach of animal welfare laws.
