5 great reasons to visit Ratchada this weekend
The area is buzzing. From sumptuous weekend buffets to the best vintage shopping in town, here's where you need to go.
What suits a Sunday more than a big late brunch? The restaurant offers all you can think of for a brunch buffet, from fresh seafood to live barbecue every weekend from 11:30am-3pm. B990++ lets you spend your ideal Sunday waltzing along the buffet line for prawns, shellfish and mantis shrimps to dip in tangy seafood sauce, as well as other international dishes, from steaming hot dim sum, fresh sashimi and sushi to Western comfort food like soup, salad, pasta and steak. The highlights? Alaskan king crab noodles, foie gras and a lobster plate for every diner. Wash it all down with unlimited sparkling wine.
G/F, Swissotel Le Concorde, 02-694-2222. Sat-Sun 11:30am-3pm
Feeling tired after all that food? Relax in style at this all-in-one spa, located on the second floor of the office-slash-mall building behind Central Rama 9. Classily decked out in dark tones with a few Balinese influences, the spa rolls out a long service list starting with basic tension-relief options like The High Back & Shoulder Relaxing Treatment (B1,300/60 mins) or The High Deep Tissue Treatment (B2,500/90 mins). The main massage menu spans traditional Thai massage (B1,300-1,600/90-120 mins), Swedish massage (B1,900-2,500/60-90 mins) and more specific treatments like the Jet Lag Massage (B1,900/60 mins).

With its farmers’ market-evoking decor (wooden boxes, splashes of green), the cafe does a health-friendly menu that goes big on delicious and healthy cold-pressed juices (B85) and smoothies (B75), both of which you can customize. Following that spa treatment, we recommend the cold-pressed Brain Energizer (carrot, pineapple, red apple, lime and mint).
2/F, AIA Capital Center, Ratchadaphisek Rd., 098-832-4590. Open daily daily 7:30am-10pm
This second branch of the vintage market from Srinakarin offers the same vibrant bazaar of street fashion, food and home décor (as well as even more delicious street eats including the much-hyped Joke Jompalung’s and Holy Cheese). The home decor section is a retro goldmine, too, spanning faux 18th-century grandfather clocks to neon-lit Heineken billboards. Like all markets, there are also piles and piles of pre-loved clothes, but here you can expect a better-than-average selection.
Esplanade Complex, next to MRT Thai Cultural Center. Open Thu-Sun 5pm-1am
It’s getting late, but there’s still time left to sink a few quality beers. Head over to Soi 7 to this three-story watering hole that packs a whole lot in. The first floor has a dive bar feel with a few retro ‘60s touches in the form of framed newspapers and old sofas. On the second floor there’s an Indian-inspired bar, while the rooftop operates as an open-air beer garden. Expect Thai-fusion dishes, Hoegaarden on tap and a long list of Belgian bottles like Triple Karmeliet, Kwak, Duvel, La Chouffe and Vedett.
