Premium gin-maker Bombay Sapphire toasts the beauty of handmade craftsmanship by partnering with Wallpaper* Handmade Exhibition 2015. Here are the highlights from Thai designers.

To celebrate the craftsmanship that goes into selecting botanicals for Bombay Sapphire gin, the premium spirit-maker has teamed up with Wallpaper* magazine for the international Wallpaper* Handmade Exhibition 2015. Leading designers from around the world have been invited to exhibit one-of-a-kind creations as part of the global exhibition, and Thailand is no exception. Taking place at Naiipa Art Complex (right next to BTS Phra Khanong) from Sep 24-30, some of our country's best designers and artists will be exhibiting their unique work in the spirit of handmade craftsmanship.

Here are our top 10 Thai highlights. 

Title: Blue Sapphire
Artist: R.A.W. Production

As Bombay Sapphire's contribution to Wallpaper* Handmade Exhibition 2015, they have collaborated on a short video Thai production house R.A.W. The film is inspired by “Rhythm O,” an interactive exhibition by Serbian artist Marina Abramovic that sets the artist as a target and gives the audience complete freedom to do anything they wish to her. The director referred to the interraction as representing the "blue" shade of human nature.

 

Title: ‘Sala’ Shelves     
Artist: Deesawat
One of Thailand’s leading furniture design studios, Deesawat took inspiration from traditional Thai pavilions to create this functional set of shelves.

Title: “Rabbit” coconut hand grater
Artist: 56th Studio  
Sarran Yenpanya, designer and co-founder of the pop-art-inspired 56th Studio, recreates traditional Thai kitchen equipment like this coconut hand grater (called kratai or "rabbit" in Thai) in modern forms. Colorful geometric shapes are made using Thai manufacturing techniques like black lacquer and gold leaf to create a Memphis group-style pattern.

Title: “Rattanakosin Shadow 2200” jewelry collection
Artist: Saran Youkongdee
Sarran is an established jewelry brand that uses environmentally-friendly paper designed by Sarran Youkongdee. Here, he presents a special blue-to-white gradient collection inspired by Rattanakosin-era porcelain.

Decha Archjananun and Ploypan Theerachai of Thinkk Studio have created a special laser-cut wooden fruit tray inspired by the Thai “Cha Lom,” woven fruit basket.

Title: In Praise of Shadows
Artist: Lek Kiatsirikajorn + Sarin Tgamol 

Photographer Lek Kiatsirikajorn and textile designer Sarin Tgamol hvecollaborated on a three-dimensional photography installation which sees classic cyanotype development techniques (originally used on paper) applied to fabric.
