Gillman Barracks' new foodie digs
A popular seafood restaurant moves into shiny new quarters.
This Alexandra arts enclave isn't only for world-class galleries it's home to some droolworthy restaurants and bars. And recently, there's been some exciting movement happening in the area.
Seafood restaurant The Naked Finn recently moved into a bigger space over at Block 39. Now, the place has space for a tank that can hold up to 140kg of live lobsters and it's still got room for a nine-meter long garden that houses herbs like chilli, mint, pandan and basil. They might have shiny new digs but don't worry, there isn't going to be any major shake up on the menu front. They will be keeping the classics and bringing back old favorites like deep-fried marble goby and oven-baked turbot. There will be also be a few new additions with a carnivorous edge: they are dishing out Hida wagyu striploins, top sirloin cap and a grilled Iberico pork.
The old space hasn't been left to languish either. Although the guys still have the lot, it's now been transformed into a neighborhood watering hole, Nekkid. The bar expands on the restaurant's popular classic and sorbet-based cocktails and adds a choice list of small bar bites that change daily, depending on available produce.
Not too far away is Red Baron. The cafe and bar, located at Block 45, is decked out in cubical light wooden furniture with lots of red touches. The place officially opened during the last edition of Art After Dark and peddled out a tiny menu of craft beer, sodas, cakes and savory snacks.
