As part of The Mall Group’s B20 billion restyling of the Phrom Phong area as Em District, Bangkok just welcomed the striking new Emquartier mall. The huge establishment isn't only focused on fashion. Its food zone, Helix, welcomes many new-in-town flagship stores, as well as new branches from some of the city's most-loved eateries. Here are some spots well worth checking out.

Now Open

Croissant Taiyaki

Having conquered Instagram with pop-up booths at Esplanade Ratchadapisek and Siam Square in recent months, Croissant Taiyaki has finally opened permanent outlets at Mega Bangna and Emquartier. The Japanese brand offers a playful twist on traditional taiyaki (fish-shaped cake) by using croissant dough instead of cake batter. Join the queues at either branch for the classic red bean (B60), cold custard (B65) and ham and cheese (B70) options.

Hot Star

It's all over your feed: this Taiwanese junk food sensation has arrived at Emquartier with fried chicken fillets the size of your head. This much-hyped chicken comes in two flavors: original and spicy (B139). The next two things to tick off your checklist are the Shilin squid (spicy and salty fried squid, B89) and Hot Star lemonade (B49).

La Baguette

Opened in 1998, La Baguette, the lovely all-white French-style patisserie and cafe in Pattaya, has just launched a branch in Bangkok. Like the original, the new Emquartier shop rolls out homemade treats such as almond croissant (B80), banana chocolate crepe (B210), cannelles (B40), waffle sundae (B190), strawberry tart (B140) and croissant croque monsieur (B260). There’s plenty to please Thai palates but, to be fair, there are also classics like pain au chocolat (B60) and plain baguette (small, B25; large, B80).

Pierre Herme

Bangkok's first Pierre Herme boutique is the work of renowned Japanese interior and retail designer Masamichi Katayama, who took his inspiration from, you guessed it, colorful macarons to create a luxurious yet playful venue. A box of the prized macarons comes in at B980 for seven pieces, while boxes of chocolates are priced B700-1,850. Other products include chocolate bars, nougat and cookbooks.

Thonglor brunch favorite Roast Coffee & Eatery has opened a second branch at the new Emquartier. Alongside signatures like the eggs Benedict (B280), ham hock and croquette (B320), and banana pancakes (B320), this branch also serves items from a new menu, dubbed 4th Issue. Do order an iced espresso latte (B120) or roasted iced tea (B120), too.

Softree

After welcoming the shaved ice of Seobinggo, the frosty Korean treats keep coming. Korean ice-cream brand Softree has opened its second overseas shop in Bangkok. Highlights of the small but sleek shop include Wow! Honey Chips (milk ice-cream cone topped with honeycomb, B159), It's Magic Lamp (milk ice-cream cone topped with a drizzle of caramel and magic lamp powder, B139), Snow Like Sel (milk ice-cream with cotton candy, B149) and the one-bite-size cone (B39).

Ceret

The restaurant claims to do classic comfort food with a focus on local organic ingredients, all plated up in a pared-back Nordic interior. Veggie-focused dishes range from the vegetable salad with tofu and spicy nut dressing (B280) to the seasonal vegetables and mushrooms cooked with an egg yolk fudge and topped with parmesan truffle (B360). Elsewhere there are street food touches, like kanom pung ping (toasted bread, B220) served with a twist of tres-leches, milk ganache and house-made ice-cream.

Fauchon

The neon-lit French cafe Fauchon is set to open the doors of its flagship store. Offering both indoor and outdoor seating, the new branch—like the one at Groove promises plenty of Parisian-style patisseries and baked items, proper French and Mediterranean dishes, and lots of Fauchon-branded products. The highlight, though, has to be the new summer desserts such as the coco raspberry millefeuille (B220) or carrement mangue (B220).

Sava Dining by Asava

Having made his name with the modern, ready-to-wear womenswear label Asava, designer Polpat Asavaprapa is now combining fashion with food with Sava Dining by Asava. Here, the focus is on hearty, home-style dishes with slight twists, such as bruschetta nham with fresh chili and garlic sprinkled with cheddar cheese (B190), fish and shrimp balls in spicy and tangy sauce served with poached morning glory and crispy fish flakes (B220), and baked garlic and spiced clams in crispy puff pastry (B260).

La Monita Urban Cantina

This new branch of the much-loved Mexican joint plans to elevate peoples' expectations of the cuisine, offering stunning views of the neighborhood and waterfall within Emquartier. Executive chef Billy Bautista will cook a menu of high-quality dishes that go beyond burritos and tacos, including modern interpretations of dishes from Mexico and California. Expect seasonal menus, Latin craft cocktails and local and imported spirits and beers.
