What better way to celebrate Indian Independence than with some tikka masala and naan?

August is full of Independence days and it just so happens that our subcontinental neighbors celebrate their Independence just after us. Here are two restaurants dishing out Indian Independence Day meals.

D'Bell

This modern Indian restaurant hosts a buffet dinner ($35) that comes complete with a mango lassi welcome drink followed by nine types of mains including Aloo Tikki, a potato cake filled with masala green peas with yogurt and tamarind chutney; Dahi Bhalla Chaat, lentil dumplings in spiced yogurt; and Tandoori chicken roll. They also have three desserts like jalebi, a crispy dough ball with rose syrup and rasmalai and cottage cheese dumplings in saffron milk. If a party is what you seek, their upstairs lounge also has 15% off their drinks menu and will be playing Bollywood music throughout the night.

Saha

Two celebrations are planned at this newly-opened gastronomic Indian restaurant on Duxton Hill. A special seven-course lunch and dinner menu ($88-108) with dishes like lamb biryani, spice-baked cauliflower, and chicken kebabs occupies the main dining room, while the terrace bar hosts a cocktail party with five types of Indian-inspired drinks (with two non-alcoholic options) and bar bites like samosas and vegetarian kebabs.
