Singapore's gold medals, charming old estates and a forthcoming transgender documentary.

1. Singapore's clinched 4 gold medals in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this year (on through Aug 3), thanks to outstanding performances by Teo Shun Xie, in 10m air pistol, and both the women's and men's table tennis teams in their matches against Malaysia and England respectively. Local swimmer Joseph Schooling bagged a silver medal in the 100m butterfly, setting a new national record of 51.69s to boot. For updates, check the Glasgow 2014 results page.

2. Hot on the heels of the successful Kranji Countryside Farmers’ Market last month is Bollywood Veggies' Bolly Jolly Farmers Festival over the Hari Raya long weekend. Familiar local artisanal foodstuff producers like Eastern Granola, GSH Conserves, Hunter's Kitchenette and Mofo Chilli set up shop alongside Bollywood Veggies' fresh produce. No word on when the next edition is, but there will be another Kranji Market at Gardenasia from Oct 4-5.

3. There's a new crowdfunding campaign for Singapore's first trangender documentary, Some Reassembly Required, by a team of Lasalle and Chapman Uni grads. It'll follow the fates of a group of Singaporean transgender men, including the brave (and cute) young trans man Chris, whom you can watch here:

4. Civic group My Queenstown's heritage trails of their 'hood (sign up on Eventbrite) is in full swing this month, with not one but two events in August (one of them Hungry Ghost Festival-themed). The two-hour trail emcompasses the stretch from Tanglin to Portsdown Roads, showcasing the estate's old-school charms. The emotional centerpiece here is probably Tanglin Halt, a town center and hawker center much-loved by residents, which will be demolished by 2020.

5. In other urban development news, Dakota Crescent, near Kallang, is the latest old neighborhood that will be vacated by end 2016 and redeveloped. Make sure to snap some photos the next time you're at Tian Kee & Co, before the estate's pastel-colored, low-rise blocks are all but forgotten.

6. Ending on an upbeat note: this year's A Design Film Festival has just revealed its lineup of big screen goodness. Other than the Yves Saint Laurent, Vivian Maier and Tadao Ando biopics, we're also looking forward to Maker, a docu about modern-day tinkerers and craftsmen, and Flake and Flames, about the pin-up, tattoos and custom car and bike movement in the US and Europe.
