The water for Celebrate Songkran 2014 has dried up—but the hype hasn't
Despite the fact that plans for water-related activities at the festival have been shelved, there's still plenty to look forward to this Songkran season.
It's all over the papers—our first ever Songkran festival on April 12 and 13 will, ironically, be sans water, due to Singapore's recent dry spell and the ensuing need to reduce our water usage (damn, we were really looking forward to the water guns). Our good pals at BK Magazine have also written a brilliant tongue-in-cheek article about the news here.
Nevertheless, there's still the H20 Music Festival (featuring Far East Movement!), Muay Thai tournament and other fringe activities at Celebrate Songkran to look forward to—find out all you need to know about the upcoming festivities here (though there obviously is no need to bring along a change of clothes any longer). Plus, while it's hardly as exciting as water gun fights and dunking stations, there'll be a Water Conservation and Water Heritage Exhibition organized by PUB.
Still bent on getting wet? New Century Tours' Foam Festival is an overnight celebration that'll be held on a luxury yacht—and, last we heard, plans for the event's water and foam party are still in place. There's also W Hotel's Endless Summer - Wet ‘N’ Wild poolside party, where you're bound to have lots of splashin' good fun.
Alternatively, if you're looking for a seriously authentic Songkran experience, jet set to Thailand to participate in the festivities—we've also rounded up a slew of excellent Songkran hotel deals. After all, there's nothing like the real thing, right?
