The Global Language Monitor’s 10th Annual Survey of the World's Top Fashion Cities has just been unveiled. Unsurprisingly, the top three are New York, Paris and London, with the Big Apple beating the  City of Lights by a narrow 0.4 percent. More shocking is the beating Bangkok took this year.

The list includes 55 cities, with Shanghai coming in as the top asian fashion capital at number 10. Singapore and Hong Kong placed at 19 and 20 respectively. But the big Asian loser is definitely Bangkok, who tumbled 23 spots and nearly fell out of the ranking altogether.

Ironically, this sad news comes hot on the stilletos of news that the Bangkok Fashion City will be revived, albeit with a much smaller budget--US$3.7 million versus US$53 million in 2003-2006.

The rankings are achieved according to Global Language Monitor's secret sauce:

"This exclusive ranking is based upon GLM’s Narrative Tracking technology.  NarrativeTracker analyzes the Internet, blogosphere, the top 250,000 print and electronic news media, as well as new social media sources (such as Twitter) as they emerge."

Positioned after Caracas, San Fransisco and Abu Dhabi, Bangkok only bested three cities: Austin, Frankfurt and Seoul. GLM commented that "Bangkok’s fashion reputation reflected the decline of civil order in Thailand." Apparently, having the "most fashionable protestors in the world" didn't get us points.
