Kampong Glam welcomes a fresh addition to the neighborhood: Japanese eatery SushiAirways.

Kampong Glam is heating up and its latest arrival is Japanese restaurant SushiAirways.

Forget the usual zen décor, this 30-seater's modeled after the Douglas DC-3, an American fixed-wing propeller-driven chrome-plated plane used in the 1930s—elements like a metal staircase, airline food carts and smiling stewardesses complete the effect.

Leading the team here at this sushi specialist is executive chef EC Wong, ex-head chef at Grand Hyatt Singapore, with seafood flown in from Japan four times a week. Aside from nigirizushi (from $5), you'll also find maki rolls (from $8) including mango, avocado and tobiko ($38) and sashimi (from $11.50).

They also offer an omakase menu (from $180) if you're looking to spoil yourself, while lunch sets start at a very affordable $15 (choose from mains such as salmon teriyaki or pork katsu, includes free-flowing rice, miso soup and green tea).

For those of you thirsty folk, there's a selection of shochu (from $40/300ml) and sake (from $25/250ml), as well as wines (from $12/glass, $55/bottle) and whiskies (from $10/glass, $105/bottle).
