There’s news from both our airports this week. The construction of the new immigration gates at Suvarnabhumi Airport is now completed. Here’s how it works: after you get your boarding pass, you’ll go up to that mezzanine looming over the check-in counters, and get a full-body scan. You get into the tube, raise both arms and wait for the machine to scan you down, privates included, for over a minute. Then you go back down to meet the immigration officers. The good news is that Thai passport holders can just scan their passport and fingers through the automatic gates, which should be much faster. Over at Don Muang Airport, a B1.6 billion renovation to welcome Air Asia’s planes this October is ongoing. We haven’t seen any renderings but it can’t be worse than the present look. Also, expect duty free shops by King Power.
