Opened in 1992, Spasso (Grand Hyatt Erawan, 494 Rachdamri Rd., 02-254-1234) is one of Bangkok’s oldest Italian restaurants, though lately it probably gets a great deal more traffic as a nightlife hangout with its live music and dancing. While that remains true, Grand Hyatt Erawan is revitalizing the dinner menu, with the appointment of Milanese chef Loris Pistillo. Working with the hotel’s established sustainability efforts (they grow their own organic greens and make their own organic cheese), Pistillo has revamped much of the menu with dishes from Italy’s various regions. Expect dishes like red snapper with sautéed clams and fennel salad over a red pepper coulis (B720) from central Italy, and risotto with pumpkin, duck ragu and glazed shallots from Milan (B250/460). Incidentally, they also do an affordable Sunday brunch priced at B990 per person.
