We kinda saw it coming, though we hoped it somehow wouldn't. AirAsia will start charging a check-in fee for all bookings from Sep 21 onwards. The fee (RM10/B100/HK$30) will apply for all flights departing from all airports where AirAsia operates, except Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul and Tehran.
Thankfully, what's still free are the self check-in services available on web and smart phones. For web check-in you can just log onto the AirAsia website (via your computer or mobile phone), check-in and print out your boarding pass. For mobile check-in you will need to have an iPhone, a BlackBerry or an Android phone with the AirAsia application downloaded. After check-in through the mobile application you will received a QR barcode, which is needed to scan to print out the boarding pass at the airport. Both check-in procedures are available from seven days to one hour before your flight.
Passengers with luggages can drop their belongings at baggage drop-off counters one hour before flight time.
