In 2009, KBank CEO Banthoon Lamsam bought the 50-year-old wooden Nanfa Hotel, located right in the middle of Nan’s provincial capital, aiming to preserve the heritage of the province he loves. After two years and a total of B50 million, Nanfa has gotten a big facelift and has become the 14-room Pukha Nanfa Hotel (369 Sumondevaraj Rd., Mueng, Nan, 054-771-111, www.pukhananfahotel.co.th). Though most of the old wood structures have been preserved, traditional paintings, expensive lanna-style amenities and Pasaya bedsheets have been added, making this the most luxurious hotel in town. The B250-600 price tags of the old Nanfa Hotel have risen accordingly to B2,300-4,200 with breakfast during low season (through Oct 31). Rates are discounted 15% on Sun-Wed nights until Oct 15. We only hope that this peaceful town won't become a victim of its own popularity—like Pai, Chiang Khan and Suan Phueng did.
