One of the most famous hills in Thailand, Phu Kradueng, which has been closed during the rainy season for safety reasons, will welcome trekkers again from Oct 1 until May 31, 2011. Entry fees are B40 for Thais and B400 for foreigners. Note that the number of visitors is limited to 5,000 per day so you might need to plan ahead. There’s also still no cable car to the top so if you can’t carry your backpack, prepare to pay B15 per kilogram for help. If you don’t have a tent, the Department of Nature Preservation is providing several choices for places to stay, from a small room to a whole forest house. Rates are B1,200-3,600. Book at 042-871-222/458, www.dnp.go.th.
