During Dec 6 to Jan 2, Emporium Department Store is transforming its ground floor into a positive festival space it is dubbing the “Let’s Give Good” market. The focus here is all about the other side of the gift-giving season: helping those who are less fortunate and trying to save the planet at the same time. There is a slate of planned activities throughout the event as well as plenty of holiday gifts to buy, with some of the proceeds going towards less fortunate children and hill tribes.

One of the main parts of the event is the Refill Station—the On Nut’s bulk that sheds a light on the environmental costs of public waste. Here, you can bring your own containers to refill with organic mint shampoo or dish soap while taking in a workshop on how to lead a zero-waste lifestyle.

There are also plenty of other workshops planned, like learning how to fold and wrap things up in a Japanese traditional wrapping furoshiki style and ditch plastic bags for good.

Then, there will be FabCafe. Although the name might have a less serious tone, they are actually hosting a very important workshop on how to craft environmental-friendly gifts from used plastic. Nearby, The Cave Workshop Studio is where you can learn the arts of Japanese crafts, like traditional Ikebana Japanese flower arrangments and Katazome fabric dying techniques. Donation-wise, Emporium Department Store is also joining forces with several foundations, namely the Foundation for the Blind in Thailand and Paper Ranger. Here, you can donate old calendars that will be used to make braille books. Also, old toys that the little ones ditches ages ago can also be donated to more deserving recipients.

While Thailand might be known for its hot weather, during winter, the cold weather can be quite deadly in certain regions, especially in the north.
