Garmin Pay launches in Thailand
Welcome to cashless society.
Garmin users grabbing a cup of coffee after their morning run can now quickly make the purchase with a touch of their wrist with Garmin Pay—no wallet or phone needed.
Garmin, the US-based tech company specializing in GPS and wearable technology, has announced the launch of Garmin Pay in Thailand, a new contactless payment feature on its smartwatches.
The tech company has teamed up with Kasikorn Bank, Krungthai Card, Siam Commercial Bank and global payment networks Mastercard and Visa to provide its health-conscious users the convenience and flexibility to exercise and make payments without having to carry a wallet.
To get started, customers of these banks can create the Garmin Pay Wallet through the Garmin Connect app by selecting the credit card they want to connect with the watch, then fill in the card information along with their passcode. To make a payment with the smartwatches, simply place your wrist near a card reader that supports PayWave and PayPass at shops that accept contactless payments.
Like the other three established payment systems—Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay, Garmin Pay uses tokenization methods offered by global payment networks to secure users’ information, in which the data is saved in an isolated safety chip to protect sensitive data from malware or virus.
Garmin Pay is compatible with Vivoactive 3 series, Forerunner 645 series and Fenix 5 Plus, available for purchase at major retailers like B2S, KingPower, Banana IT and Betrend.
