Christmas is just around the corner and while Japan may seem like an unlikely place to check out some festive markets, there are actually a number worth your time. Hit up one of these Christmas markets in Tokyo and expect to be caught off guard by dazzling fairy lights, handmade ornaments, and delicious warm wine best taken during chilly nights. Here’s what to expect from each of them.
 

1. Roppongi Hills Christmas Market

Being the oldest Christmas market in Tokyo, the Roppongi Hills set-up is a European-inspired one that guarantees a jolly good time through the sheer variety of products available, including handmade baskets, keychains, festive toys and more. There's lots of eating and drinking to be had too.

This is one heck of a market. Despite being a highly popular and kinda crowded place, the Hibiya Park location, festive carolling, gigantic Christmas pyramid, and an outdoor ambiance reminiscent of Europe are all reasons enough to warrent a visit.

3. Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Market

Yokohama’s red brick market is a must-visit sightseeing spot for people who need to get themselves into the holiday mood. There are a bunch of drink stalls, craft workshops and a real-life Santa to find out if you're naughty or nice. Plus there’s even an ice rink for you to get your skates on.

Budget travelers, this one is for you. Head here for an enormous display of bargainable booths that are excellent for last-minute shopping needs. Looking for cheap yet exotic home decor? Pick up Japanese kick knacks (like Kokeshi dolls), homeware, and more, or simply bask among the lively crowd.
