Ready for lift-off.

An ambitious new brewing project looks set to finally revolutionize Bangkok's craft beer scene.

Last year, we reported that six prominent players in the Thai craft beer scene—Chit Beer, Devanom, Wizard Beer, Red Stone, Lazy Fat Cat and Mickleheim—were joining forces to open the first Thai craft beer brewpub.

That dream is at long last about to become reality. Situated in Nonthaburi, Mitr Craft meets all the criteria to operate legally as brewpub, allowing multiple beer-makers to practice their craft legally and let the public taste the results.

As part of this very democratic operation, aspiring brewers can register their profile on www.mitrcraft.com and pitch their projects for people to vote on. Those that achieve at least 300 likes will earn the chance to have their beer produced at Mitrcraft and made available for consumption.

Instead of traipsing out to Nonthaburi to try the new brews, you'll be able to head to their new outlet, Mitr Bar at Victory Monument (in the same building as Skytrain Jazz Bar), which will enter its soft opening this Friday to be followed by a grand opening slated for Aug 8.

Voting is still ongoing, but some beers, like a Sriracha Chilli Imperial Stout 9%, have already far exceeded their target, and are expected to begin production within this month.

Though this news is sure to excite Bangkok hop-heads, brewpubs are nothing new to Thailand. Tawandang on Rama 3 Road has been brewing up its own lagers since 1999, which it serves nightly along with kitsch cabaret acts and German pork knuckle. The Londoner has also served up three of its own beers in the bar's various guises over the past 20 years.
