Odette makes it onto this year's World's 50 Best Restaurants list
No Restaurant Andre, no problem
Restaurants here may have dropped a lot on this year's annual Asia's 50 Best Restaurants, with only seven establishments on the list, but it seems The Lo & Behold Group's Odette, which climbed four spots to #5 on that list, has landed itself on the World's 50 Best Restaurants list at #28, climbing a whopping 58 places from #86 last year (they also made it on our Top Tables 2018 top 10 list this year).
At a ceremony held in Bilbao, Spain last night (Jun 19), the top suds went to Italy's Osteria Francescana, who knocked off New York's Eleven Madison Park. Bangkok's Gaggan leads the way for Asia in the top 10 as they went up two spots to #5, with Tokyo's Den and Narisawa following behind at #17 and #22 respectively. Shanghai's multi-sensory Ultraviolet by Paul Pairet finds itself at #24 (up 17 places from last year), Tokyo's Nihonryori Ryugin returns to the list at #41 and Bangkok's Nahm drops 20 places to #48. Modern Australian barbecue joint Burnt Ends just off Keong Saik Road remains on the top 100, but fell to #61.
Nonetheless, we commend chef-co-owner Julien Royer, who first established the Michelin-starred European restaurant Jaan before heading Odette in 2015, for bringing sentimentality and gastronomic elements in everything he creates, most of which are ever-changing depending on the season.
