You can now search for jobs on Carousell
Just make sure no one tries to lowball your potential salary
A little below "women’s fashion" and "car accessories", now sits an inconspicuous ‘jobs’ tab on Carousell. The feature was recently introduced to the app, where amidst the second-hand sports gear and overpriced concert tickets, you might soon find your next career opportunity.
The page works pretty much like all the other categories on Carousell, with the listings laid out in the same blocky format, plus the option to be sorted into Full-time or Part-time, as well as by job type. A quick scroll through reveals that for now, most of the postings are for temporary positions and odd jobs ranging from restaurant service staff to freelance designers, along with the usual scammy “Make thousands of dollars working from home!” type ads.
The company has been moving steadily towards becoming a destination for classifieds, but job listings are a pretty stark contrast to the ecommerce we’re used to. To put things in perspective, they’ve also expanded to include property listings on the app as well.
It remains to be seen whether Carousell will become a viable job-hunting app, because while this gives job seekers an alternative platform to search on, the quality of jobs currently available is debatable.
You know, kind of like most of the stuff being sold on the app. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
