The Retro Hiker
This year sees the return of another lovehate fashion item, the velcro sandals. If these don’t remind you of your childhood, we pity you. But, then, you may well be able to pull off the youthful look. Think the classic Teva or the so-hot-right-now Japanese brand Suicoke (coming soon to Onion Store).
Match with: Maxi dress or skinny jeans (rolled up above the ankle) for girls and jump ankle trousers with basic tee for guys, layered with a jacket.
The Office Slippers
The Adidas Originals Adilette textured-rubber slides seemed to be resigned to the role of office slippers after their launch back in 2015. But, they’re recently made a comeback thanks to the likes of hip brands Rag & Bone, Charles & Keith and, rather surprisingly, Chloe, who launched shower slides in Summer 2015.
Match with: Basic tee and rolled up boyfriend jeans for girls. Print T-shirt, shorts and plain socks for guys.
The Daddy Sandals
Sure, they look a little old-fashioned, but Birkenstocks had a rebirth of sorts after Celine launched its “Furkenstocks” on the runway in Spring 2013. These comfortable shoes just about make sense if you’re trying to pull off a boyish/minimal Scandinavian street style.
Match with: Girls, go with cigarette pants or ripped jeans. Trousers and formal-wear will do for guys.
The Minimal Gladiator
Gladiator shoes have been hot for both men and women for ages. But while the gold, metallic and suede pairs with fringe details connote an ethnic-inspired bohemian style, we think the simple strapped black leather options are much cleaner.
Match with: Ladies, try an oversized, straight-cut dress or wide-leg pants. Guys, stick to shorts and a Hawaiian shirt.
