As the TPL has reached the halfway stage we thought it was the perfect time to take a look at how the capital’s seven teams have been getting on and their hopes for the rest of the season. While the title looks to be a nailed on a formality for Buriram PEA, currently ten points clear of anyone else, second spot, and a place in the AFC Cup, as well as the two domestic cups are all well and truly up for grabs. In this first part we’ll look at how TOT, Army United, BEC Tero Sasana and Police United have done.

With the mid-season TPL break upon us Bangkok's clubs turn their attention to the Toyota League Cup first round this weekend. Not that there are many fixtures taking place in the capital. Still, an upset could be in the offing at Bangkok University, Rangsit as Bangkok United of Division 1 host struggling TPL opponents TOT (6pm). And Division 2 side Chamchuri United (whose manager just left for Thai Port) have a derby match against TPL big boys BEC Tero Sasana. The match starts at 6pm at the Chulalongkorn University Stadium.

All matches start at 6pm unless stated otherwise.

We’re at the halfway stage already! It’s hard to believe but the first half of the season will be completed with this weekend’s fixtures. That said, there is still plenty to pack in to the second half of the campaign including the FA Cup and League Cup competitions.

A rare bit of good news for the beleaguered FAT president Worawi Makudi this week as an independent enquiry by the English Football Association found no evidence to support corruption claims leveled against him.

Thai Port played a TPL match against TTM Phichit in Khlong Toey on Wednesday afternoon. The northerners took an early lead but Port turned things around to eventually run out comfortable 3-1 winners, Scotsman Steven Robb scoring his side’s third goal – his first for the club.

Seems that uncertainty and troubles still continue to plague Thai Port. From having their stadium gates padlocked last November to being just three days from getting kicked out of the league in February, the Port Lions and their fiery fans have really been put through the mill of late on and off the pitch.

The two most potentially attractive fixtures this weekend have been wiped from the schedule due to next week’s AFC Cup games. Sixth-place Army United versus second-place Chonburi, and Police United (third) against Muangthong United (fifth) have been postponed so as to give the Sharks and the Qilins maximum preparation time for their midweek ‘Round-of-16’ matches. The matches will now be played during the mid-season break on June 25th.
