Ever since it first opened its doors in December 2021, The Standard, Hua Hin has set a high bar for what stylish beach resorts can (and should) be, making it no surprise that it recently became one of only 17 new hotels across Asia and Australia — and, more notably, the only one in Thailand — to make it onto Condé Nast Traveler’s 2022 “Hot List,” which recognizes the most exciting and can’t-miss new resorts across the globe. According to Condé Nast Traveler, The Standard, Hua Hin injects a “dose of youthful energy” into the beachside town.

The restaurant stands out easily as the only Japanese-style house in Ekkamai’s Acmen complex, Gen goes well beyond its grilled chicken-specializing sister to serve up a wider variety of meat grilled on binchotan charcoal. While the free-range chicken still stands as one of the stars (try the slightly-roasted breast with yuzu kosho paste), the restaurant also does some fine Japanese wagyu.
