Celebrated Chiang Mai-based artist and filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul, 46, is currently in Bangkok to host a side project at library-slash-art-space The Reading Room called “Soldiers/Senility.” As part of the venue’s ongoing “Sleepover” series of talks, the first event on Oct 3 invited retired-soldiers to discuss the military’s role in Thai society. Bangkok is finally getting the indie cinema it deserves. Ahead of the opening, we chat to the trio of founders, Sarinya Manamuti, 37, Nicholas Hudson-Ellis, 34, and Wongsarond Suthikulpanich, 37, about their plans to offer an alternative to the city’s blockbuster-obsessed cinemas.
