Back for a third time, the Moviemov Italian Film Festival presents 18 pictures under three categories: Italian movies, an Italian classic retrospective of Ettore Scola, and Thai movies, together with Q&A sessions with Italian directors and actors. All screenings take place at SF World Cinema, CentralWorld, from Jul 24-28. Free admission with Thai and English subtitles. Highlights are as follows:
La Grande Bellezza (The Great Beauty) (2013): Nominated for this year’s Palme d’Or at Cannes, the drama-comedy film by Paolo Sorrentino is a portrait of present-day Rome told through the eyes of aging writer Toni Servillo (Jep Gambardella).
Tutti I Santi Giorni (Every Blessed Day) (2012): Starring Luca Marinelli and Italian pop singer Thony, it is the story of a young working-class couple of opposing natures, Guido and Antonia, and their desire to have a baby.
Famiglia (The Family) (1987): Ettore Scola’s Oscar-nominated film traces a middle-class family’s history from the Belle Epoque to the 1980s through the eyes of aging patriarch Carlo.
Un Giorno Speciale (A Special Day) (2012): Two young people with different purposes in life cross paths, an event that will change their lives forever.
Gli Equilbristi (Balancing Act) (2012): After cheating on his wife, who subsequently leaves him, Giulo realizes just how easily the perfect life can fall apart.
Alone (Thailand, 2007): Siamese twins undergo an operation to be separated, but only one survives and leads a life highly affected by her dead sister.
