Photographer captures vibrant scenes from 'daydreamed road movie' through Nakhon Pathom

Swiss-Malaysian photographer Lee Wei Swee, 28, is a noted photographer whose fashion photography has appeared in the likes of Vogue Italia, Novembre and Contributor. In his latest exhibition, Nakhon Chai Si: Still from a Daydreamed Road Movie, he strays away from his usual style and captures vibrantly painted ordinary objects, such as lorries, to present a narrative of photography that's bursting with imagination. The exhibition runs from Aug 20-Sep 10 at 3rd Rock Gallery (11 Soi 41, Yaek 18, Rama 9 Rd., 087-450-6116).

Manit Sriwanichpoom, 55, is one of Thailand's leading contemporary photographers best known for his "Pink Man" series critiquing Thailand's consumer culture. His latest exhibition, "Fear," runs through Sep 10 at Kathmandu Photo Gallery, H Gallery and Tang Gallery and captures the terrors of Thailand's political scene over the past five years through photographs and video clips. Here, we speak to him about the underlying climate of fear in Thailand and what art can do to help break the silence.

Taweewit Kijtanasoonthorn, 34, is a Thai photographer and professor at Silapakorn University who hails from Yala province. His latest exhibition, Karaoke Twilight, runs through Jul 31 at Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre and presents a series of photographs and videos capturing the colorful exteriors of Bangkok's karaoke bars and what goes on inside them. Here, we speak to him about the stigma surrounding karaoke bars, the truth about the daily lives within them, and how they are symbolic of Thai society as a whole.

The art project tackling Thailand's social stigma through painted buffaloes

Maitree Siriboon, 33, is a Thai artist best known for his contemporary photography that merges elements of local countryside life with cosmopolitan concepts like fashion and sex. His latest project, dubbed Save Thai Buffalo and New Mosaic Series uses rescued buffaloes as the subject on which he paints replica works by famous artists, ranging from Picasso to Warhol, in an attempt to reverse social stigma around the animals. Here, we speak to him about the inspiration for the project, which opens this Saturday, Jun 9, at Yenakart Villa (69 Soi Prasat Suk, Yen Akat Rd, 02-235-9800) and runs through Aug 15.
